Bernie Gallagher, chairwoman of the Doyle Collection and owner of the Westbury Hotel in Dublin, asked Brave New World to create the identity for a new flagship brasserie-bar beneath the prestigious hotel. The new identity centred on the theatrical roots of the venue, for which Brave New World commissioned legendary illustrator, Malika Favre, to create a series of vaudevillesque works. The typography was designed to work perfectly alongside the black, white and red illustrations - which have helped create an iconic status for the destination.
The vision for Balfes was New York diner meets high-end Parisian brasserie with a 1930s ‘Cabaret’ feel.. In that style, Brave New World created the white-on-black logo for Balfes in cinematic and striking 1930s graphics. Balfes’ textural blend of leather, marble, brick and industrial-style ceiling lights denotes Manhattan energy imbued with Parisian chic. Brave New World’s identity concept and vision helped cement Balfes reputation as Dublin’s most stylish destination for grilled rib-eye steak and Atlantic hake.
