Originally the brainchild of entrepreneur and author, ShaoLan Hsueh, Brave New World took her methodology and developed every aspect of the brand from the name and the identity to the eye-catching illustrations to a complete digital learning platform. The Agency took the pioneering method for learning Chinese to publisher Thames & Hudson and created the book over a year (Art Directed by Crispin Jameson with illustrations by the acclaimed Noma Bar).
The methodology is based on a simple series of illustrated symbols that multiply or evolve to form more complex words and sentences. To date the first book for 'Chineasy' has sold nearly 1m copies and been translated into 17 languages. For its work on ‘Chineasy’, Brave New World has won numerous prestigious awards including: D&AD Gold, The Wallpaper Design Award and the Design Museum Visitor Award. As co-founders of the venture, Brave New World successfully exited the venture after 3 years.
